Lennoxville United Church Service of Hope and Inspiration

-

The 6th edition of the Service of Hope and Inspiration was held at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 7 at Lennoxville United Church, Queen Street (Borough of Lennoxville) Sherbooke. The Sanctuary and Lower Scott Hall were beautifully decorated with 46 pink and yellow rose bud vases, flowering plants and large bouquets, all donated in memory of, or in support of, loved ones. During a moving service conducted by the Reverend Linda Buchanan, Kristan Mckercher spoke words of welcome and explained the purpose and meaning of this service and Nancy Suitor read a prayer entitled “Prayer for the Control of Cancer”. Donors carried 135 pink and yellow roses to the front of the Church in a touching Procession of Hope. We placed these flowers in the “Vase of Hope” to signal our unity as a Church Family facing cancer. Under the inspired direction of Jamie Crooks and with the accompaniment of Lennoxville United Church’s organist, Maryse Simard and Fannie Gaudette, pianist from Bishop’s University, the choir of Lennoxville United Church: Sandy Davidson, Marjorie Robinson, Esther Barnett, Margaret Logan-white, Dave Mccormack, Kim Logan, Barbara Hedges Boire, Carol Mccormack, Eleanor Gang, Julie Quenum. Yongzhen Sui, Shanna Young, Kathleen Weary, Meiqi Jin, Larry Boire and John Chesney joined B.U Singers: Fannie Gaudette, Jenn Cianca, Sarah Heath, Melinda Enns, Tim Doherty, Jamie Crooks, Daniel Miller and J.D. Kent and the Angel Choir consisting of Esther Grace Nenkam, Tim Nenkam, Franck Nenkham, Ryan Sylvester-young, Laura Cloutier-young, Kathleen Weary, Dimitri and Jade performed the Introit: ”Anthem”, “If it Be your Will”, “Song of Bernadette”, “Come Healing” and the closing anthem “Halleluia” all by Leonard Cohen. To characterize the choral and musical performances as inspirational does not do them justice! Reverend Buchanan’s Sermon, entitled “We are Not Alone” was a musically-oriented lesson in facing the end of life with the help and support of family, friends and the Church.

After the Prayer of Dedication for the offering Nancy Suitor, Kristan Mckercher and Frankie Noble presented cheques to La Maison Aube Lumière, represented by the President of its Board of Directors, Élisabeth Brière and to Robbie Hinds, representing Leucan’s “Shaved Head Challenge” in the Townships. Thanks to everyone who purchased roses, rose bud vases and tea cup and saucer candles as well as those who made donations to this project. Your generosity enabled us to maintain the level of our contributions to La Maison Aube Lumière and the Leucan “Shaved Head Challenge” again this year.
