May with Richmond 50+ Club

Starting the new month of May on the 1st, President Matty Banfill welcomed everyone at the Richmond Melbourne United Church to an afternoon of “500” but before the games got started, a donation to the Youth Fair Committee of the Richmond Fair was made. A card was signed for Rose Oakley. At the conclusion of play, Jim Stevens earned high score with 5300 points, followed by Ron Jones with 5080 points. Evie Banfill was the recipient of low score.

Military Whist was the order of the day on the 8th. The annual end-of-the-year outing was mentioned and everyone is to put on their thinking caps about where they would like to go. Games got underway at six tables and the winners were Captain Fran Dewar with Vera Hughes, Elizabeth Mastine & Linda Badger with 32 flags. Low score belonged to the table of Captain Eileen Perkins with Shirley Beasley, Helen Knowles & Harry Morrill.

On the 15th, President Matty Banfill welcomed all to an afternoon of “500”. A card was signed for Freda Coote. Six tables started the afternoon which included three dummies but as the afternoon advanced two of the dummies were replaced by real people! High score of 4460 points was earned by Jim Stevens and Jackie Ross had 4210 points for second place. Low score went to Big John Sharman.

On the 22nd, Military Whist was the game and at the conclusion of play, the winners were the table of Hugh & Jeannine Lancaster, Ron & Bev Jones with 29 points. Low score went to Eileen Perkins, Harry Morrill, Matty & Evie Banfill. During the usual weekly delicious lunch provided by the members, the sole birthday person, Jeannine Lancaster, was honoured. The month of May concluded on the 29th, with sixteen people coming out for fun games of Bingo. Almost everyone went home with a prize which had been brought in by all the participan­ts. The special winners of the day were Helen Knowles and Kim Coote. The afternoon and the month ended with the usual delicious lunch.

June 19 will conclude the weekly meetings for the summer months.

A great time was had by everyone, friendship­s were made and the food was “to die for”.
