Security School project to be studied
Aproject to create a Quebec National Integrated Safety School (ENSIQ) is well underway as the Quebec government is preparing to conduct a sector study this fall. This represents a major step forward according to those in charge of the file, Jonathan Beauchemin (business development manager for ENSIQ) and Daniel Guillot (director of the Integrated Industrial Training Center) who explain that the study, conducted by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEES), aims to evaluate the feasibility of the project.
In addition to offering tailor-made training to meet the needs of companies already established in the region, the objective would be to offer a qualifying vocational diploma and a certificate of college studies. "We are currently working on the development of a training course with the Cégep de Sherbrooke that is related to security. Our goal would be to welcome a first cohort in the fall of 2018," Beauchemin says.
In the event that the study is conclusive, it will also identify the most appropriate place to host such a project according to surface and equipment needs. Although a number of scenarios are on the table, the former Pavillon de la Relance at the corner of Sherbrooke and Jean-paul II streets remains the favoured choice.
Produced in partnership with the Commission scolaire des Sommets, the proposed project calls for a budget of approximately $2 million.
