Bulwer Golden Age Club

-

May 30 - On a chilly spring day we saw 80+ members gathered for the final gathering of the season, to play cards and other games and mostly for conversation and laughs.

8 tables of 500 were played with ladies 1st place going to Pat Decoteau with a score of 4900; 2nd place went to Louise Peasley with a score of 4700 and the lady with the lowest score going to Caroline Marion with 3420. Now the men: Clyne Macdonald with the high score of 4760, 2nd place went to George Peasley with 4160 and taking last place for the gents is Bruce Batley with a score of 3160.

Over the year the highest score for 1 game goes to Pat Decoteau for the ladies with a score of 1320 and Bruce Batley for the men having a score of 1260. Most skunks for the year is Ilah Batley with 6.

Two tables of cribbage were played with table 1 of Lynda and Ed being defeated by Keith and Richard, by a score of 40 points, after 9 games. Table 2: Beulah and Fred were defeated by Colleen and Doreen by 50 points after 8 games. Apparently Colleen and Doreen doubled skunked Beulah and Fred.

Skip Bo we had 6 players Ann Crawford, Violet Lister, Bev Cote, Mary Simons, Paulette Painter and Darlene Rogers. Bev Cote won the 1st game and the winner of the 2nd game being Mary Simons, winning the short game.

Now, on to carpet bowling. Warren Heath played twice due to being short of players. The Black Team of Warren, Colleen Heath & Bev Cairns were defeated by the red team of Liz French, Doris Coates, Jean Naylor and Shirley Statton 7 to 4. Now on the 2nd game the black team won by 14 to 2. Games stopped at 4:15 p.m. The President, Keith Vintinner, went over the highlights of the meeting 2 weeks ago, for all the members that were not present that day. Flowers were presented to Margaret and Keith, in appreciation for their years work. Peggy also received a hanging basket.

Then it was time to get ready for the supper. Tables were brought out. Grace was said by Warren Heath. The meal consisted of a salad supper: potato salad, cold cuts of ham and turkey, marinated carrots, bean salad, broccoli salad, orange jellied salad, rolls, tea and coffee and an assortment of pies which were raisin, coconut cream, pumpkin and pecan. Thank You Peggy and helpers.

Door prize winners were Ron Macdonald, Serena Wintle, Peggy Grapes, Mary Simons, Hazel Kerr and Francis O’hara. Peggy’s goodies were won by Helen Digby, Jackie Cleary, Bill Hyman, Hugh Bowen, Louise Peasley, Margaret Vintinner, Eugene Naylor and Helen Matthews.

The Golden Age Club resumes September 5, 2017 so mark your calendars, not to forget, at 2 p.m.

This is my last write up. Hopefully someone will take over. A big thank you to my faithful readers.
