- By Dylan Konecny

At a press conference, yesterday morning, a change was announced for the Cégep de Sherbrooke football team. Marc-andré Desrochers, who has led the team since 2014, has decided to retire from the position of coach for family reasons and is giving way to Jean-philippe Gauthier, who will take on the role of Head coach effective immediately.

Jean-philippe Gauthier holds a Bachelor's degree in physical education and health from the Université de Sherbrooke. He has more than 10 years of experience as a coach in different levels of competition. Throughout his career, he has held the positions of teacher, head coach, coordinator and team manager.

Until recently, he held the position of Assistant to the head coach of the Université de Sherbrooke's Vert & Or, which led him to perform various tasks as head of the school, Recruitment advisor and manager of priority files for the team, staff and team activities.

Prior to being promoted assistant to the head coach of the Vert & Or, he coordinated the special teams unit.

Jean-philippe Gauthier worked as a teacher in physical education and health for the Commission scolaire de la Région de Sherbrooke, for the Haut-cantons School Board and for The Commission scolaire des Sommets. He also has experience in municipal football, notably as head coach of the Midget AA football team of the Patriotes de Dolbeau-mistassini with whom he won the Auger Cup.

Mr. Gauthier is pleased to join the Volontaires team at the Cégep de Sherbrooke. "In my research on the Volontaires football program, I’ve seen very good potential for success. My goal is to build a solid program that will promote the academic and athletic success of players by focusing on cooperation and perseverance. It is a dream come true for me since I have long wanted to lead my own team in order to develop a partnership that brings together schools, programs of study, sports programs, students and the Sherbrooke community. "

At the press conference Sylvie Coulombe, Coordinator of the Center for Physical Activity at the Cégep de Sherbrooke, had the following to say about the new coach at the helm of a championship winning program. "The selection committee chose Jean-philippe Gauthier as a candidate because of his obvious desire to make the Volunteers program evolve. Bold, dynamic, organized and above all highly motivated, it will undoubtedly be a major asset for the football team. "
