The most important meal of the day
What better way to solidify friendships than to share a meal?
For Friendship day, the Lennoxville United Church is once again this year putting together an absolute feast for Townshippers this coming Saturday.
“Everyone has to come enjoy breakfast!” laughed organizer Deanna Mcnab, inviting all Townshippers to drop by Lower Scott Hall in the church to grab a bite.
Mcnab has been part of the breakfast organizing team for 14 years. The breakfast serves as a fundraiser for the church, “just to keep things running”. Every year, she said, the church serves over 225 people.
“It takes a big team. There must be a dozen volunteers to do dishes alone.” Mcnab explained that there are further volunteers for each station, but that some of the most valuable help comes from Bishop’s College School (BCS).
“The breakfast uses up about 50 pounds of bacon and 40 pounds of sausage! Thankfully, BCS comes and cooks it for us. They’re always doing nice things for the community.”
Bringing the community together, said Mcnab, is precisely the point of Friendship Day and the breakfast. She commented that “There are a lot of Francophones that participate. Even at church service, it is a mix of French and English Townshippers.”
On top of fuelling Friendship Day attendees with a wonderful breakfast of scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, muffins, hash browns and lots of other goodies, the United Church will also have a float in the parade again this year.
“Our new minister, Linda Buchanan, will be on the float.” said Mcnab. “She’s young; we’re her first parish! We love her.”
Mcnab added that Buchanan’s dynamic personality made for a minister who is very active in the community, and bound to get involved in many other activities.
Saturday’s breakfast will be running from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Meals cost $9 for adults, $5 for children aged 6 to 12 and $22 for families (two adults and two children). Children under the age of five eat for free.
