Trucker pinned, killed under his own truck

-

An accident in the Township of Hatley claimed the life of a truck driver Monday morning after he was crushed by the vehicle he was driving. At 8 a.m. this morning police were called to the intersection of Chemin de l’auberge and Chemin Mcfarland in Hatley.

Initial investigation suggests a mechanical failure was likely at the origin of the accident.

The driver of a dump truck apparently jumped from the moving vehicle when its brakes failed to function at the intersection of Auberge and Mcfarland roads just before 8:00 am.

The truck ended up against a tree that had to be cut down before the trucker's body could be removed from under the truck’s rear wheels. Emergency services, followed by a Rouillard tow truck, worked for several hours to extricate the body.

The SQ has initiated an investigation to determine the exact causes of the accident as has the CNESST since the accident occurred on the job.
