Young driver killed in Bury

A21-year-old man from Stornoway died Saturday at a roadside exit on Route 108 in the Gould Station area of Bury.

Sûreté du Québec officers from the Haut-st-françois MRC were called to the scene at about 2:30 pm.

According to the most recent informatio­n the driver, Samuel Duquette, initiated a prohibited passing maneuver and had to try to avoid a wild turkey that jumped in front of him. Duquette then lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree along the highway. He later died in hospital.

The Sûreté du Québec confirms that an accident investigat­ion is being carried out to determine the exact circumstan­ces surroundin­g the death. Mechanical inspection will also be performed on the victim's vehicle to verify if a mechanical defect could have been involved.
