First Knowlton Guides and Fordyce Women’s Institute gather at a superhero tea

- By Louise Smith

Just after Victoria Day, members of the Fordyce Women’s Institute, who meet regularly in Cowansville, came over to Knowlton Academy to meet with members of the First Knowlton Guides. Eight penpal pairings had been made between the two groups and they had been corresponding since just after January, using code names. The code names were varied, from Inukshuk to Canada Eh!

The afternoon tea had a superhero theme. It was a wonderful first meeting in person of the intergenerational penpals. Renalee Gore, the principal of Knowlton Academy, and Brenda Scott, the secretary, joined in the party. There were welcoming activities and then there was a sit down to a marvelous full afternoon tea complete with dainty sandwiches, desserts, scones, and requisite tea!

The Guide leaders, headed by Donna Houseman-mitchell, were pleased with the enthusiasm shown by all in attendance. Rose Highfield had played “mailperson,” helping out with the Guides while also being a member of the Fordyce Women’s Institute. Norma Sherrer, the president of the Fordyce Women’s Institute, hoped that a similar pairing could occur again next year. All in all, a superhero afternoon was had by all! Norma Sherrer, president of Fordyce Women's Institute, handed out Quebec tartan tam pins to the Knowlton Guides.
