Sherbrooke calls for available housing units

-

Every year, the end of June sees some families without housing in the territory of Sherbrooke and to help prevent this situation, the City is launching an appeal this year to all rental property owners to make the availability of their units known. "For a variety of reasons, less fortunate families may find themselves homeless on July 1,” says Sherbrooke Mayor Bernard Sévigny. “Together with the Municipal Housing Authority, the Sherbrooke Tenants' Association, and the Red Cross, we are able to temporarily accommodate people and help them find affordable housing. If the owners inform us about the availability of their units, everyone wins.

For years, the Sherbrooke Tenants Association has been working with families looking for housing. "Families are often big and they have to wait to find accommodation that fits their budget. Unfortunately, it often happens that a lease is ending and they haven’t been able to find another on time, "says Normand Couture, Association executive director.

For the time being, it is impossible to predict whether families will need to use emergency services. "We hope that this won’t be the case and that everyone can find adequate housing," Couture concluded.

Sherbrooke property owners can register their available housing in a database by contacting the Sherbrooke Tenants' Association directly at 819 7911541.
