Hardy announces investments of $110,000 for Saint-françois schools
Saint-françois MNA, Guy Hardy, on behalf of the Minister of Education, Recreation and Sports, of the Family, Sébastien Proulx that nearly $110,000 in funding will be allocated to four school beautification projects in the Saint-françois riding to be carried out this summer.
The money is granted as part of the Schools Embellishment Measure for the 2016-2017 school year of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. This measure provides funding for a variety of development projects that school boards implement in partnership with the community to provide students with an environment that is conducive to physical, challenging and safe activities. A total of 148 schoolyard beautification projects were authorized this year thanks to government investment of almost $3 million throughout Quebec.
The ETSB’S Alexander Galt High School will receive $25,000 for its lighting and landscaping project while Lennoxville Elementary will receive a similar amount for the installation of new swings and soccer nets and playground landscaping. Two CSRS schools will also receive $25,000 for similar projects.
In addition, Hardy announced the five projects selected in the riding of Saint-françois, out of a total of 14 in the Eastern Townships, as part of the 2017 edition of École Active. The objective of this program is to encourage public and private schools offering pre-school, primary education and school daycare services to improve and diversify the quality of their physical, sports and recreational offerings. The École Desjardins ("Ride your head to roll" project), the Pie-x-del'assomption school (project "Playground development: creativity and dance") and École des Deux -Rives (project "Embellishment of the school yard") will each receive $2,600 for the realization of their projects. Saint-antoine school will receive $1,600 (project "Psycho-motricity among pre-school youth"). Collège François-delaplace, for its part, will receive $2,000 for its project "Heavenly Trail - Open Air".
"I am pleased with these investments in the schools in the Saint-françois riding,” Hardy said. “In addition to contributing to the preservation of school assets for physical activity and recreation, all of these projects will positively stimulate students and youth in the region to move and adopt healthy lifestyles."
"Student participation in sport and cultural activities contributes to a strong sense of belonging to the school and encourages students in academic perseverance,” said Proulx. “By providing them with a stimulating environment and facilities, we are ensuring that our youth can combine fun and learning. Through these investments, we are showing our willingness to encourage them to pursue a physically active lifestyle.”
