Delivery man sentenced for pot trafficking
An enterprising 30-year-old is facing the justice system after having allegedly trafficked pot for three years from his home and as part of his Sherbrooke delivery work. Information from the public helped collar Mathieu Martel-côté who is alleged to have operated his drug trafficking business between June 1, 2013 and May 11, 2016.
Martel-côté pleaded guilty Thursday to the Sherbrooke Courthouse.
At the same time as he was working as a pizza delivery man, Martel-côté was delivering cannabis and cannabis resin and also welcomed customers to his home to make their purchases.
Investigators from the Sherbrooke Police conducted surveillance on Martelcôté, which allowed them to document the evidence on the record. A surveillance report confirms a transaction by the accused with a client during the investigation.
At the time of the search of the accused's home, the SPS found 311 grams of cannabis, 26 grams of cannabis resin, an accounting list, a balance sheet and $745 in cash, and paraphernalia used by small traffickers.
Martel-côté, who had no known criminal record, confessed to the police after his arrest in 2016.
Lawyers for the Crown and the defense recommended a 90-day prison sentence to be served on weekends as well as 240 hours of community service to Court of Québec Judge Hélène Fabi. A two-year probation period was also imposed.
