n June 3, Sutton Mayor Louis Dandenault invited the entire population to the official opening of the town hall as well as the fire station.

During the event, more than 250 people visited the premises despite rainy weather. The visitors were given a photomontage showing the state of the premises before, during, and after the renovation works.

Visitors were then able to visit the three levels of the town hall with explanations of the different services and functions of the building's premises. Finally, in addition to signing the town’s golden book, visitors received a brochure published by Héritage Sutton that described the history of the town hall and its fire station over the years.

Citizens and friends were also invited to visit the fire station and the emergency command room located on the second floor of the fire station. Thus, explanations were given on the organization that supports the interventions of the town in case of disaster on the territory. The visit culminated in a ceremony to formally identify the firefighters who served for many years. Lieutenantcolonel Martin Barrette, representative of the Lieutenant Governor of Quebec, J. Michel Doyon, accompanied by Member of Parliament Denis Paradis, presented the medals. There was also the presence of Nancy Shepard, daughter of Jack Shepard, firefighter (1930-1949) and fire chief (1949-1957), and Jessie Ryley and Ted Fulcher, grandchildren of George A. Morrison who became a firefighter in 1915 and was the first fire chief of Sutton for which the fire station was named.

Despite the unfavourable weather, the many children present were able to have fun in the back yard thanks to the inflatable games installed for the occasion. The emergency vehicles of which the recent truck-ladder and collector’s items of the first fire trucks of Sutton were exhibited for the pleasure of the visitors as well as a prevention trailer, which aroused the curiosity of several adults.

Dandenault said he was pleased with the day and the opportunity to introduce to the population their renovated town hall, which is a continuation of the dynamics of downtown Sutton.
