Every year during the summer Hockey Canada assembles for the National Teams’ summer showcase, a series of development and selection camps that kick off the 2017-2018 season.

“For about three-and-a-half weeks in July and August, we get to see all of the players in our program concentrated in two locations, which gives our management team, coaches, and staff a chance to develop, first and foremost, what we feel is our top talent in Canada, and evaluate those players as we look to put together winning teams throughout the upcoming season,” said Scott Salmond, Hockey Canada’s vice-president of hockey operations and national teams. “It’s a great opportunity for these players who are working towards earning a chance to wear the Team Canada jersey, and I want to thank Ryan [Jankowski] and his team for the diligence they’ve put into helping us identify this group of players.”

This summer the Sherbrooke Phoenix will be represented in Calgary for the Program of Excellence by Anderson Macdonald as well as 2017 second-overall pick Samuel Poulin and 11th overall pick Bailey Peach.

Macdonald who’s no stranger to the Hockey Canada’s programs will be skating with the U18-group which features the top eligible Canadian 2018 NHL draft prospects.

Macdonald with Canada’s U17 White team registered two assists in six games and was invited to try out for the U18 national team as an underage player last spring.

Poulin and Peach will be skating with the U17 group which features the top players heading into their first years in the CHL or Junior A hockey. With their provincial team’s Peach and Poulin had some success.

Poulin with the Collège Esther-blondin Phénix had 68 points (30G, 38A) last year and Peach had 47 points (20G, 27A) with the Cole Harbour Wolfpack.

The Sherbrooke Phoenix open their rookie camp at Bishop’s University in late August along with the Gatineau Olympiques, Val-d’or Foreurs and Blainvilleboisbriand Armada.
