Alouettes add veteran Quarterback Drew Willy following Week 1 win

- By Dylan Konecny

Following their 17-16 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders to open the season in Week 1 of the 2017 season, the Montreal Alouettes announced Monday the signing of international quarterback Drew Willy.

Willy spent the previous season between the Toronto Argonauts and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He was released by the Boatmen in training camp at the start of this season by new general manager Jim Popp after the previous GM, Jim Barker, had given up a first-round draft pick to acquire the 30-year-old signal caller last season.

Willy’s CFL experience includes 76 games, including 37 starts. Over his five seasons he has passed for 8,539 yards and 39 touchdowns.

Als starting QB Darian Durant completed 20-of-31 passes for 233-yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 1. Durant is backed up by Vernon Adams and Jacory Harris. The team also has rookie signal caller Matthew Shiltz on the roster.

The Als travel to Edmonton to play the Eskimos this upcoming Friday night for Week 2.
