Celebrating a year of dance in Potton

(parent volunteer throughout the dance program) and Jeremy Eldridge. Those gathered enjoyed games, swimming, a barbecue and the chance to see the first viewing of the show. Like the audience that evening, the youth were impressed to see themselves in matching costumes, many of which had been created by Linda Jersey, a long time volunteer and friend of the youth programs. As they viewed each performance, they cheered when perfectly in sync and moaned when a mistake was made although likely unnoticed by the audience.

This year’s dance program was attended regularly by over 30 youth and was offered free of charge, weekly, on Saturday afternoons as part of the weekly youth programs of the Missisquoi North Youth Centre (CAB). Many of the youth in the dance program also took part in a Leadership program that followed dance each week. These kids are motivated, inspired and creative beyond belief!

At Saturday’s gathering, the youth celebrated dances which included: tributes to disco with Stayin’ Alive performed by the Boys and Jive Talkin with the girls as well as: a salute to the Jersey Boys Musical, Mr. Sandman, modern hits like, Shape of You, Cheap Thrills and more. Flashback numbers included: These Boots are made for Walking and Footloose. The evening was topped off with a dessert bar featuring desserts donated by many of the youth centre parents.

Each dancer received a free 8 x 10 photo of themselves taken during the year as a gift from the CAB and those who wanted to could purchase framed enlargement (2ft by 3ft) that were in display throughout the gymnasium.

The dance program will re-start in the fall and for the summer; the youth will take a well deserved break to enjoy time with family and to take in the beautiful weather.
