A dynamic summer staff at Brome County Museum

-

Brome County Historical Society

Who says there is no future in history? With three intelligent, enthusiastic, and creative young people on summer staff, certainly not the Brome County Museum!

Members and friends of the BCHS, if you haven’t done so already, please stop by the museum soon and meet our dynamic students — Christina Ciurlej of West Bolton, Wesley Smith of Knowlton, and Rikki Blumenfeld of Cowansville.

Christina is 16 years old and a star pupil at Massey-vanier High School. Not only does she consistently make the honour roll, but she maintains an average of above 90 per cent, making her one of the select few who make the prestigious Principal’s List! She enjoys most subjects, including history, and hopes to study medicine eventually.

Christina is also a great athlete. In Secondary 4, the level just completed, she played on the M-V tennis and badminton teams, earning a “Most Valuable Player Award” for the latter. Her summer job last year was as a tennis instructor at the Lions Park. Christina is helping out in the museum and in the archives this summer.

Wesley Smith, who will be 18 in September, graduated from Massey-vanier a year ago and has just completed his first year of study at Champlain in Lennoxville. Currently enrolled in a liberal arts program, he plans to study political science in the future.

Wesley has a number of hobbies and interests, including history and photography. He plays classical guitar and is also an accomplished curler, having won a MVP Award in high school in that sport. Wesley worked in the kitchen at the Knowlton Golf Club for three seasons. He is helping out in the museum with a focus on collections management this season. By summer’s end, he should be an expert on heirloom quilts…!

Rikki is almost 20 years old and a recent graduate in social sciences, including history, at John Abbott College in Ste. Anne-de-bellevue. She will be attending Concordia University in the fall and will study in an arts program with a special focus on English literature.

Rikki is also a star athlete. From an early age she has played sports, including tennis, soccer and basketball, and earned multiple awards in all three at Massey-vanier and John Abbott. Rikki worked at the museum in 2014 and 2015 and at the Mcgill Sports Camp in Montreal in 2016. As well as mentoring the younger students this summer, she is helping out with children’s programming, which is an important element of the Brome County Museum.

In keeping with the Brome County Museum’s current agricultural theme, Rikki will host a special butter-making activity in the Children’s Museum on Saturday, July 15. Museum admission fees apply to nonmembers of the BCHS. Our free special exhibit, “From Forest to Field: Brome County’s Agricultural Tradition” is featured in the Centennial Building daily until mid-september.
