Magog inks deal with Firefighters
complete the service and coordinate operations.
Magog Mayor Vicki-may Hamm says the signing of the collective agreement is "a crucial step in the reorganization process as it confirms the new internal organization of the service. She adds that citizens will be even safer with two better-equipped barracks, permanent teams and improved response time. In addition, we were able to do everything within the budgetary framework that had been accepted by council."
"Another advantage of the new structure is that it will naturally develop a spirit of collaboration and complicity among firefighters who will be assigned to the same shift on a regular basis,” she adds. ”Given the nature of the work and the often difficult situations they face, solidarity and trust among the firefighters of the same team is an undeniable asset for the safety of citizens and the physical and mental health of members of our Fire Safety Service. The next step, which is already well on its way, is the construction and installation of the new fire hall in 2018. The decontamination work has begun and the demolition of the old hall will take place very soon, followed closely by the construction of the new barracks."
Firefighters’ union president Pierreluc Courchesne, also expressed his satisfaction with respect to the restructuring of the Service and the collective agreement which has just been signed. "This new framework meets expectations that we had already expressed and, above all, are specific to the territory we need to secure."
Hamm concludes by recalling that "the decision to improve our fire safety risk coverage was taken after several analyses of best practices and the realities of our territory. We listened to the suggestions for a better level of service while considering more remote sectors and the ability of taxpayers to pay. Thanks to Improvements in human and material resources that we are implementing, citizens will be better served and will be able to sleep soundly because they will still be protected by conscientious and motivated firefighters."
