Wales Home news June 2017

-

This is an exciting time of year around the Wales Home. Outside, the flowers are blooming and are most enjoyable to look at while out for a breath of fresh air. The petting zoo animals also returned at the end of May and are another attraction while taking in the sights and sounds of the Home. Our renovations continue to move forward and everyone is happy to watch the progress which is taking place.

The tally from our May Silent Auction has been done and we raised a considerable amount of money which will be used to better the lives of our residents. Thank you to our extremely supportive community for all that you did to help with this fundraising event and for everything you do on a regular basis for us.

On June 1st, Zootherapy took place. Two new animals joined the zootherapy team at the Home this month – Nic and Pic, the hedgehogs. Boutique Diane held a clothing sale in the main living room on the 3rd. Olive Oil Tasting took place on the afternoon of the 8th. On the evening of the 8th, Michel Vaillancourt, Director of Health Services gave a presentation of his recent travels to Spain, Morocco and the Canary Islands. At the Friday Tea on the 9th, beautiful piano music was also provided by Pierre Labelle. Isabelle Gosselin’s music students gave a wonderful piano and violin concert on the 10th.

On June 15th, a dance was held in the main dining room in celebration of International Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Music was provided by Donna Mills, Billy Trippear and their friend Gaetan. Our annual Wales Home Foundation Campaign Closing event took place on the afternoon of the 17th. We raised more than our goal of $300,000.00 and wish to thank everyone who helped contribute to our success. Speeches were given by President of the Wales Home Glenn Brock, President of the Wales Home Foundation Jim Thompson, Wales Home and CHSLD Wales Inc. Executive Director Brendalee Piironen and Honorary Foundation Chairman Jordan Arshinoff Foss. Music for the afternoon was provided by Francine Beaubien and Isabelle Gosselin. The afternoon also included plenty of enjoyable conversation and refreshments. During the afternoon, everyone in attendance also got to meet the newest member of the Wales Home’s therapy team – a special therapeutic dog toy which barks and moves, which has been named Horace.

John and Sylvia Luxton gave a musical performance for a Father’s Day Happy Hour which was held in the living room on the afternoon of the 19th. The June birthday party took place on the afternoon of the 21st. Happy birthday to everyone who celebrated. On the afternoon of the 22nd our Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held in the main living room. Financial and committee reports were given and approved for the 2016-2017 fiscal year which ended on March 31st, 2017. We are looking forward to many upcoming projects including the completion of the front of house expansion project this fiscal year. The Roxton Singers performed for residents on the evening of the 26th in the main living room. Our last Friday Tea for the summer was held on the 30th. They will resume in September.

Best wishes to Thelma Picken who moved out this month. Our sympathies are extended to the family and friends of Peggy Erskine.
