‘Cowboys From Willie to Dolly’ at Place Nikitotek

- Country Connection Jessie Pelletier Aulis

The summer musical “Cowboys From Willie to Dolly” is presented for the fourth, but last year at Place Nikitotek downtown Sherbrooke. This show is a must-see for all country music fans.

The show revisits country music through the years, as six singers take turns performing the classics of country music, from the most recent years, to way back to the Carter Family. With accomplished musicians to back them up, the singers are truly talented and energetic and their high energy is simply infectious.

Quebec Issime, which produces this musical, is an incredible success story made in Quebec. The company produces four musical reviews which have been touring Quebec for quite some time and its name is synonymous with amazing entertainment.

The fabulous show “Cowboys,” at Place Nikitotek has been getting rave reviews and it keeps getting better. It is simply amazing. Quebec Issime, which has an ongoing ten-year contract with the City of Sherbrooke, will bring another one of its musicals to town next year, so really it is your last chance to see “Cowboys” here.

People have been coming from everywhere in the province and from the other side of the border to see the show. The event will be presented from July 12 until August 19, 2017.

Every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday until August 19, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., the artists grace the stage of Nikitotek and take you on a wild ride through the story of country music.

The artists kick off the show with Brad Paisley’s “This Is Country Music” followed by many of today’s hits, before they take us back in time to the Carter family, Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, Johnny Cash, George Jones, and many more.

Through the show, sisters Karine and Caroline Riverin, along with Philippe Berghella, Marc-andré Fortin, Dominique Godin, and Yanick Lanthier perform a huge selection of songs by Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, Big & Rich, Dwight Yoakam, Kenny Rogers, Vince Gill, Lady Antebellum, and many more artists who have inspired generations of music lovers.

Krystel Mongeau, a native from St. Malo joined the group this year to replace Marie-eve Riverin. She might be a newcomer to this musical, but she fits right in with the others. The vocals are perfect, the harmonies beautiful, the band is really tight and their performance offers a perfect balance between slow emotional ballads and toe-tapping rhythm. The artists are in total control of their artistry and their stage and they drag you in without skipping a beat.

The performances are commanding as they take us on a magnificent journey through country music from yesterday and today. The decor is whimsical, the costumes true to the era originals, the multimedia projections well inspired, and the lighting leaves us in awe.

The cast is having a lot of fun on stage and this alone is contagious. It is hard to resist the infectious delivery offered by the singers and musicians and choreographies that will leave you wanting more.
