Ceilidh to celebrate Scotstown’s 125th Anniversar­y

he Ceilidh Society of Scotstown will be celebratin­g the town’s 125th Anniversar­y with a three-day reunion, August 4, 5 and 6 on the banks of the Salmon River in Mackenzie Park in Scotstown.

Friday, enjoy the local public market providing an opportunit­y to pick up some local produce for the weekend. Anyone without supper plans can enjoy some corn on the cob, or a meal offered by local vendors, or even have a panini and soup on the deck of the Petit Écossais, the local café in the park.

The reunion is open to everyone and begins at 7 p.m. with a Meet and greet and a dance with live music provided by Mike Patrick and Kylie Côté.

Saturday activities could include a bus tour to Milan with shuttles leaving at 10 a.m. and a visit to the Donald Morrison museum or a visit to the Presbyteri­an church, which will be open from noon to 2 p.m. Visitors are then invited to head over to Walter Mackenzie Park and enjoy an old fashion strawberry social and a display of historical pictures of Scotstown. Piper Jeff Mccarthy of the Black Watch Royal Highland will entertain guests throughout the day on the bagpipes. At 6 p.m. a méchoui supper will be held followed by a dance at 9 p.m. with the Jon Macaulay Band.

On Sunday, activities begin at noon with a picnic and the traditiona­l kirking of the tartans ceremony. Approximat­ely 50 clan members bearing their respective clan tartans will proudly march and display their colours led by Matthew Fowler and Sylvain Ross.

Sunday afternoon activities will include bagpipe music, As well as Haggis hurling for all ages.

All activities will take place at Walter Mackenzie Park regardless of the weather; a large tent will be set up in the event of rain.

Parking areas for the handicappe­d will be provided near the tent entrance.

In the Park, water fountains will be available for the kids to keep cool.

This year, a bar service will be available on site, but attendees can also bring their favorite beverages for Friday and Saturday.

On Sunday, a canteen will be on the grounds for those without picnic lunches.

It is worth the trip to Scotstown to hear the bagpipes being played on the banks of the Salmon River.
