Deanholme farm celebrates 150 years
Relatives from all over the country travelled to Hatley Township on Sunday for a family reunion on Deanholme Farm, passed down for five generations and heading into its 150th year. According to Susan Mccomb, one of the organizers of the reunion and celebration, the land for the farm was purchased on May 1, 1868 her great-grandfather John Dean.
The farm is now owned by Mccomb’s son Neil and his family.
Close to 50 relatives, many of whom used to visit the farm when they were children, came back to celebrate the farm’s milestone on the weekend.
Family members reconnected and enjoyed lunch outside near the main house in the morning, and then attended an afternoon service at Minton United Church, which the family had helped build years ago.
