Another successful yard sale for Legion Branch 99

- By Louise Smith

This past weekend Royal Canadian Legion Branch 99 in Cowansville held its annual huge yard sale over two days. Everywhere in Cowansville there were yard sales as it was the first weekend of the month, but this sale regularly draws large crowds because of the bargains and the variety of goods on display. At 7:30 on Saturday morning the first customers were there!

The money raised goes into the general fund. It is spent on projects or to maintain the building. It is one of their biggest fundraisers during the year. President Robert (Bob) Bouthot said that it would not be possible to have the sale without the large group of volunteers who lend a hand setting up, selling, and then bundling up the left-overs at the end of the sale at Sunday’s closing.

It was amazing to see what was for sale and how much was purchased over the two-day period. Denise, who was in charge of the money belts for the sales people and the counting of the receipts was able to report that Sunday morning they were only $600 away from reaching last year’s total of $3,060. The best year they raised nearly four thousand dollars.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 99 is very active in the community and it is heartening to them to see the community supporting them each year through the volume of goods donated for this sale along with the large number of shoppers who attend the annual event.
