Community spirit lemonade stand

- By Mable Hastings

On July 19, the Municipality of Potton Outdoor Adventurers Day Camp set up a Lemonade Stand in front on the United Church building on Main Street in Mansonville where the youth participants and their leaders sold lemonade with 100% of the profits going to the Missisquoi North Volunteer Centre (CAB) Partage/share Food Bank. All were invited by the youth to come and enjoy a refreshing glass of lemonade in aid of a good cause and many did just that!

“To keep our young campers happy, we introduced a few new programs to the day camp this year”, says Program Designer and Supervisor of the Outdoor Adventures Camp, Trish Wood.

“We are most proud of the Community Spirit Campaign, a new initiative that allows young people the unique opportunity to volunteer in their community during the summer months. The response was amazing, says Wood. Our young campers were eager to help out and enthusiastically participated and understood that giving back to their community simply feels good”.

On Wednesday, August 2, some members of the Day Camp staff and youth visited the Volunteer Centre after purchasing food with the money raised from their lemonade stand profits. The smiles truly said it all as an abundance of food items were donated to the Partage/share with committee members, Charles Laurin and June Peacock present to greet and thank the youth and organizers.

The Community Spirit Campaign is another positive step toward encouraging the youth to become active and involved in community initiatives while experiencing the positive rewards in giving to others.

The Day Camp staff echoed in the fact that this was a “feel good” effort that left all involved with the desire to do more.

For the Partage/share food bank committee, this was a gesture that warmed hearts and instilled even more pride in Potton’s youth.
