Desranleau Park skateboard inaugurated

with the construction of a new service building, a half-basketball court, and volleyball courts, and securing the slip area. Planting work is scheduled this fall.
So far, the redevelopment costs for the park are approximately $100,000, including plans and specifications for the modules, demolition of the tennis court, excavation, granular foundations, shaping formwork, supply and installation of prefabricated modules, concrete placement, earthworks, and sodding of the site.
"Over the past year, the City of Sherbrooke has taken great care to consult with various players in the community, a process that will certainly take on a much greater importance in the future so that our projects can best meet the needs of the clientele referred,” said Desranleau district Councillor Danielle Berthold. “Of course, this time, our young people found themselves at the center of these consultations through the Maison des jeunes. We are therefore very pleased to offer them quality equipment that will undoubtedly meet their expectations."
Local skateboarder Alexandre Blais also spoke at the inauguration. Blais had recently criticized the city of Sherbrooke for its inadequate skateboarding areas and equipment. Although he still had some criticisms of the new park’s design, overall he judged the new project to be a vast improvement over past efforts.
“Each time it gets better” Blais said, of the the city’s efforts to invest in skate-infrastructure.
