Burger King returns to Sherbrooke

-

stems from an initiative of the Haddad family, which also owns the Scores restaurant next door, which will be closed temporarily from September 5 to October 1 for major renovations.

According to the Haddad family, the new Burger King will require an investment of $1.5 million while the Scores renovations represent an investment of $600,000. The two restaurants will be in the same building, but will be separated by a well insulated wall.

The new burger joint will have both a children's playroom and drive-in service. Scores will lose its drive-through service, but will keep its counter service and will be completely made over with a new bar, a new salad bar, and new tables and chairs.

The Burger King is expecting to hire 50 employees and a Facebook page has been online since August 20 asking interested parties to send in their résumés.

The Haddad family also plans to open other Burger King franchises in Sherbrooke in the future.

The two former Burger King restaurants in Sherbrooke closed at the end of December 2016, after 35 years of operation on King West and 28 years on King East. About 15 full-time employees and 22 part-time employees lost their jobs.

The first Burger King opened in 1954 and is owned by Restaurant Brands International, which also owns Tim Hortons and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. Restaurant Brands International is one of the largest fast food companies with worldwide income of over $28 billion from more than 23,000 restaurants in over 100 countries and states.
