Make way for the Irish!
Author-historian Carl Beaulieu and Heritage Publishing will host a special event in celebration of the Irish contribution to the building of Canada on Friday, September 22 beginning at 6 p.m. in the Old Court House, located at 15 St. Paul in Knowlton.
The evening will feature live Celtic music with harpist I. Corriveau and a brief awards ceremony in which the accomplishments of notable members of the local Irish community will be commemorated. Chief among those will be Justice William Warren Lynch (1845-1916) of Knowlton, B.C.L. and D.C.L., whose many achievements over a long and distinguished legal and political career included service as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, Solicitor General of Quebec, Mayor of Brome Township, Warden of Brome County, editor of the Cowansville Observer, vice-president of the Orford Mountain Railway Company, and president of the Provincial Association of Protestant Teachers. Lynch was also the founder of the Brome County Historical Society (est. 1897) and served as that organization’s esteemed first president.
Lynch’s biography is just one of many that are featured in an impressive volume called “The Irish Tradition” that was researched and written by Beaulieu and first published by Heritage in 2011. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase during the evening at a special reduced price.
Everyone is welcome to attend this free event, which includes refreshments and hors-d’oeuvres. Reservations by September 15 are appreciated and can be made at heritagepub.irish@bellnet.ca or by calling 418698-4554.
