Aube-lumière participants back after gruelling Mont-blanc challenge

-

Last Friday, September 15, eleven women aged 32 to 72 returned home after walking six to seven hours a day for seven days in the Mont Blanc Tour Challenge to raise funds for La Maison Aube-lumière palliative care centre.

Facing landscapes of a sometimes enchanting beauty, the hike was laborious and participants faced difficult climatic conditions of cold, mud, rain, snow, and sleet. "We missed our loved ones, the route was strewn with pitfalls, we were sometimes exhausted, and the weather was not very kind,” says Maison Lumière President and tour participant Élisabeth Brière. “In fact, nine of us managed to take up the Full Challenge; while two unfortunately had to forfeit after a few days of walking in the mountains. It was not easy, but every time we were tired we thought about people with cancer at the end of life at La Maison and our courage and energy came back to us,"

"By committing to take up the Challenge, each of the hikers had to pay for the trip and raise a minimum of $3,000 for La Maison,” said Maison Directorgeneral Marie Bécotte. ”We are proud to announce that our participants not only met their goals, but exceeded them, bringing in a total of $58,130 to La Maison Aube-lumière we are still expecting more.

“I would like to extend our warmest thanks to our 11 participants: Élisabeth Brière, Nicole Dubuc, Raymonde L. Brémaud, André-anne Ouimette, Nancy Pelchat, Louise Rast Dunnigan, Lysianne Reula Sheard, Brigitte Roy, and Mariejosée Roy, who have shown incredible courage in taking up this challenge and generosity towards La Maison."

Delighted with the results of this challenge, the management of La Maison Aube-lumière will evaluate the possibility of holding a second edition of the Extreme Challenge in 2019. "This time, the challenge could be even more physical and addressed to men," said Bécotte. “The population of Sherbrooke is invited to stay on the lookout for news that could be announced in the coming months on La Maison's Facebook page or on its website at www.aubelumiere.com
