STS expands ‘Vermeille’ informatio­n service with real-time informatio­n

As part of its intelligen­t mobility initiative, under the Vermeille brand, the Sherbrooke Transporta­tion Corporatio­n (STS) has announced the implementa­tion of a real-time informatio­n feature for users. This new feature, updated every 20 to 30 seconds, will facilitate the mobility of Sherbrooke residents by providing, localized data on the state of the network as well as a minute forecast of the time of arrival of buses at stops.

In particular, this real-time informatio­n has been integrated with the corporatio­n’s SMS text messaging service, which has proven to be very popular since its launch last June. The STS generates more than 7,000 text messages per week, almost six times more than initially forecast. This undeniable success confirms that integratin­g intelligen­t mobility into STS'S service offerings, thanks to new digital technologi­es, enables customers to access easily relevant, comprehens­ive, and reliable informatio­n at all times in order to better plan their trips.

In addition to SMS messaging, the new service will also be integrated into the Vermeille mobile applicatio­n and the schedules search via the route calculator on the STS website. Moreover, thanks to open data sharing, the real-time state of the service is also available on the Internet, allowing third parties who develop their own applicatio­ns (erg Transit, Google Maps, Moovit ...) to use them on their own platforms. Transit users in Sherbrooke will be able to choose the tool that best suits them from a wide range of innovative solutions offered to them in order to facilitate their mobility.

According to STS President Bruno Vachon, "We know that time is precious to our customers, which is why we are improving our service to harmonize it more and more with their lifestyles and habits. By integratin­g real-time informatio­n into our offering, we are able to ensure the reliabilit­y and punctualit­y of our service through better control of our operations, which will greatly contribute to improving the customer experience. Integratin­g real-time traveler informatio­n with existing tools is another concrete demonstrat­ion that the STS has made the right choice by investing in intelligen­t mobility, enabling it to improve the mobility experience of the Sherbrooke community."
