DAY, Judith (July 13, 1952-Oct. 19, 2016). She’s in the sun,

The wind, the rain,

She’s in the air you

Breathe with every

Breath you take.

She sings a song

Of hope and cheer,

There’s no more pain,

No more fear.

You’ll see her in

The clouds above,

Hear her whisper

Words of love.

You’ll be together

Before long, until then

Listen for her song.

(By Christy Ann Martine)

We miss you every day, Mom, and wish you were still here.

October 10 - Members gathered at the Lennoxville United Church hall for an afternoon of cards. Five tables of 500 were played. The challenge was to be the first person to take a trick with the four of spades and receive a prize envelope. Then it was up to others to do the same, and steal it away. It was a fun afternoon chasing the envelope around.

Games finished, we gathered at the supper tables for some chit-chat over a cup of tea or coffee. President Pat was absent, so lst Vice President, Joan Cruickshank, welcomed everyone, in particular our guest, Helen Nobes. Joan also welcomed aboard our newest member, Renaud Pare. At Billy’s nod, Joan asked the blessing after which we enjoyed a delicious thanksgiving dinner including turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, a medley of veggies and rolls. Pumpkin pie and whipped cream followed with tea or coffee. Our thanks to both Billy and Raven Hill-peters for this wonderful thanksgiving meal.

September and October birthdays were announced, and among them, we had a special milestone birthday celebrated by Frances Smith. Joan asked Frances to come forward, and presented

Military Whist at St. Anne’s

On a chilly October 12 evening, sixteen tables of players gathered to play Military Whist at St. Anne’s Church, Richmond. After the usual number of games was played, everyone stopped to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch of sandwiches and sweets. This month, it was deemed necessary to buy the sandwiches already made and through the generosity of two individuals, the cost of the sandwiches was not as high. Thanks, St. Anne’s friends. Thanks, also, to the folks who supplied the sweets which everyone enjoyed so much. The tea pouring was in charge of John Sharman, his kindness was gratefully accepted.

The awarding of the prizes followed. In first place with 31 flags was the table of Jim Stevens, Norma Morin, Klea Mastine and Nicole Clark. Second place, with 27 flags, was captured by Wendy Ridley, Pauline Pelletier, Marie Cassidy and Jean Guy Methot. Ron & Bev Jones, John Sharman and Jackie Ross took the honour of low score. Through the luck of the draw both times, Peter Boisvert walked away with the prizes for holding her with a certificate of Honorary Membership in recognition of this event.

Joan announced the passing of Honorary Member, Madeleine Beaulieu. We extend our condolences to her family.

Winners of 500 were: Ladies high went to Helen Nobes with a score of 5140, ladies low went to Louise Peasley with a score of 2520. Gents high went to Stan Brown with a score of 4750, while gents low went to Renaud Pare with a score of 2640. The prize for taking a trick with the four of spades was won by many over the course of the afternoon, but at the end of the day, it went home with Jack Kimpton.

Door prizes were won by Eugene Naylor, Pearl Custeau, and Malcolm Juby, while Joan’s goodies were won by Irene Young, Keith Vintinner and Frances Smith.

Our sincere thanks to the many hands who made the kitchen clean up easy.

We will play Military Whist at our next meeting on October 24, so please remember to bring something for the prize table if you wish to play.
