Stapleton nominated for Album of the Year at CMA Awards

- Jessie Pelletier Aulis

Chris Stapleton was the frontman of bluegrass group The Steeldrivers from 2008 to 2010, he released his debut solo album Traveller in 2015, which reached No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

It really didn’t take very long for him to become the superstar that we know and love today. Among several accolades, he won the Country Music Association Awards and the Academy of Country Music Awards for Album of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year, and the Grammy Award for Best Country Album and Best Country Solo Performance at the 58th annual ceremony.

His second studio album, From A Room: Volume 1, was released on May 5, 2017. Stapleton is also an established songwriter with six country No. 1 songs including the five-week No. 1 ‘Never Wanted Nothing More’ recorded by Kenny Chesney, ‘Love’s Gonna Make It Alright’ recorded by George Strait.

There’s also ‘Come Back Song’ recorded by Darius Rucker and over 150 of Stapleton’s songs have appeared on albums by such artists as Adele, Luke Bryan, Tim Mcgraw, Brad Paisley, and Dierks Bentley. Prolific artist you say!

Now, Chris Stapleton’s From A Room: Volume 2 will be released on December 1, 2017 on Mercury Records Nashville, which is his second release in the same year. He has managed just in a few years to reach the status of one of music’s greatest talents in the current decade.

He is immensely talented at everything he does. His soulful vocals are unique and so easy to recognize and this is what country music needs now more than ever, and more than all the cookie cutter voices we hear on Top 40 radio stations.

The forthcoming album takes its name from Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A (the capital ‘A’ in From A Room) where it was recorded over the last year with Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb.

Along with Stapleton on vocals and guitar and Cobb on acoustic guitar, the album features his wife Morgane Stapleton on harmony vocals, as well as longtime band-members J.T. Cure on bass and Derek Mixon on drums.

In addition to seven songs co-written by Stapleton, the album features versions of Kevin Welch’s ‘Millionaire’ and the Homer Banks/lester Snell-penned song made famous by Pops Staples, ‘Friendship.’

Volume 2 follows the release of From A Room: Volume 1, which debuted earlier this year at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart, No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and, with its RIAA Gold certification, remains the No. 1 best-selling country album of 2017. Stapleton’s 2015 double-platinum solo debut, Traveller, is currently the No. 2 best-selling country album of the year.

The critically acclaimed album, which Rolling Stone awarded four stars, declaring, “From A Room is strikingly focused, sonically and thematically,” was recently nominated for Album of the Year at the 51st annual CMA Awards.

Stapleton is also nominated for Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year at the awards, which will be broadcast on ABC live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, November 8 at 8 p.m.

Stapleton will also make his debut on PBS’ legendary “Austin City Limits” program later this month. The broadcast version will air on PBS early next year as part of Season 43.
