Dunham Women’s Institute
On October 4th the Dunham’s Women’s Institute monthly meeting was held at the home of Paula Schmidt in Dunham. President Shirley Vaughan called the meeting to order and thanked the hostess for her hospitality and the members for coming. The Mary Stewart Collect and the Salute to the Flag were repeated in unison. A Thanksgiving poem was read to the group.
Motto: Politicians have tried every way to help farmers – except to leave them alone.
Roll Call: Complete the sentence: In a perfect world, everyone could grow their own _______. As would be expected, we had a wide variety of responses.
The September meeting minutes were read by Candy Coates in the absence of Secretary-treasurer, Noreen Craig. They were approved and signed by the president. Shirley Vaughan gave the Treasurer’s Report.
Several members attended the semiannual County meeting held in September at the Cowansville United Church Hall, hosted by the Fordyce Branch.
Preliminary planning was done for our annual Christmas luncheon, and we also discussed plans for our annual Remembrance Day commemoration ceremony at the Women’s Institute Cairn in Dunham on Saturday, November 11, at 10:30 a.m. The public is welcome to attend the ceremony at the Cairn.
We were informed that member Marie-claude Demers has recently fallen and broken her ankle. A card will be sent to her from the group, wishing her a speedy recovery.
Judy Page Jones gave updates from the Q.W.I. and F.W.I.C.
This month’s program was provided by Fran Mayhew, our agriculture chair person. The presentation was “What does your woodpile look like?” As many of us still burn wood as either primary or auxiliary heat, her information was interesting.
Grace was repeated in preparation for our afternoon tea, provided by hostess Paula Schmidt.
Our November meeting will be held at the home of Joyce Proctor Martin in Dunham.
