Golden Rule # 20 Rebekah Lodge meeting in Knowlton

-

On October 26 Golden Rule # 20 Rebekah Lodge held their meeting at Knowlton Odd Fellows Lodge, in Knowlton. A noon meal was set out for all members who attended prior to the meeting. Although some did not get to eat there we understand it was excellent.

The meeting was conducted by NG Susan Lawrance with assistance from other members, and visitors. There was a good attendance although some very special members could not be present Elizabeth Goyette, a longtime member and another Sister, Gertrude Ketcham, who seldom missed these activities, due to being confined to their homes. Others missing had too many other committments. All were missed!

Susan conducted a fine meeting and special guests were presented and welcomed. Our very special guest was our Assembly President, Sabrina Royea.

After all expressed thanks and congratulations Sabrina explained that her relative, a young fellow with a terrible bone disease, had encouraging news. This specific ailment is her project - Osteogenesis Imperfecta (brittle bone disease). Our prayers and thoughts are with this young fellow. Sabrina thanked all for attending and extended “the Greetings” Rebekah Assembly of Quebec, that of her Officers, and her own personal greetings. She received a “standing ovation”!

On October 26 Knowlton #28 O F Lodge held their Annual Oyster Supper and other delicious dishes for those unfortunate not liking oysters. Eugene Jones has an excellent recipe for the oysters and Lynn Jones had other dishes for those who do not eat oysters. From all those yums and other expressions it was great! I personally had 2 big helpings of oysters. No room for the desserts! But others enjoyed!

Noble Grand, Bro. Mitchell opened the meeting and welcomed everyone, thanking all for coming and said he hoped all

Assembly Officers - in front: Susan Lawrance, Marshal; Sabrina, President; Helen Brown, Vice-president. 2nd. row: Conductor, Barbara Blair; Chaplain, Barbara Smith; Rt. Herald, Helen Fitchett; Ins. Guard, Ferne Mcconnell; Cond., Doreen Findlay; Musician, Ernestine; and Assembly Warden, Dick Sarasin. Assembly Chaplain Barbara Smith of Hatley with member June Royea, of Golden Rule # 20. had enjoyed the supper and would enjoy this meeting.

How nice to see so many members present and a Hall full of people.

District Deputy Grand Master #10, Peter Flynn had appointed his Staff and it was a pleasure to be a part of it. It was his first time to serve as DDGM #10.

A sad note but a definite duty was to drape the Charter in “Honour and Memory” of Brother Frank Matthews, a fifty plus year member, a Past Grand Master; a Past Grand Patriarch; and many other titles. He served as Treasurer of Knowlton #28 for many years, and assisted at all functions. He had a cheery smile and made all feel welcome to his lodge. Mere words cannot express how well he was loved and how much he will be missed. All sympathies to his family and friends!

After all business was taken care of any who wanted a coffee and dessert were invited to do so before returning home. Many thanked the lodge for all the delicious food and fellowship; and congratulated newly-installed officers wishing all a good and successful term. Submitted by Ernestine Whipple
