2017 Christmas Bazaar and Turkey Dinner at Lennoxville United Church
The organizers of Lennoxville United Church 2017 Christmas Bazaar and Turkey Supper are overwhelmed by the success of this annual fundraiser and want to gratefully thank the 100+ volunteers responsible for making it so. These volunteers came not only from our Church membership but there were many from the community-at-large who cared enough to contribute their time and energy for the benefit of our Church.
We deeply appreciate the efforts of those who roasted and carved the 18 turkeys, peeled and cooked the many pounds of potatoes and carrots, made and served the gallons of gravy, containers of dressing, jars of cranberry sauce and pickles, bowls of coleslaw, dozens of rolls, over 90 pies and uncountable cups of tea and coffee. Also contributing to the successful production of this turkey supper were all those who set the tables and those who diligently washed and dried the dishes, glasses, cutlery, serving dishes and cooking equipment used at each of the three sittings.
Meanwhile, while the kitchen and dining room crews took care of serving approximately 500 suppers at those three sittings (4:30, 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.), upstairs in the Upper Scott Hall patrons browsed the seasonally-decorated sales tables and made sure they were able to satisfy their cravings for Sandy Davidson’s home-made fudge and other candy, Shirley Bassett’s incredible array of knitted and sewn articles and Kristan Mckercher’s Food Table laden with Ucw-made fruitcakes, plum puddings and 100 dozen doughnuts along with a vast assortment of home-made jams and jellies, cookies, cakes, sweet breads, cupcakes, pies and tarts, all made and donated by members of the congregation, many of whom staffed the long tables of goodies.
Continuing the tour of the Upper Hall one could choose from an incredible assortment of hand-crafted jewellery made by Jean Coates, select items from a most attractive Wish Table, coordinated by Bev Oakley and Jean Porter, try their luck at the well-supplied Silent Auction Table, managed by Carolyn Leonard, Gloria Stronach, Vi Mackey and their helpers, choose an object that brought back memories of by-gone days and traditions from the Attic Treasures Room which was staffed by Allison Connelly, Glenys Groves, Donna Mckell and assistants, or, if you were of a certain age, while away the time at the ever popular Fish Pond.
The Bazaar opened its doors at 3 p.m. and this was immediately followed by words of welcome by our Minister, the Reverend Linda Buchanan, and the Bazaar organizer, Kristan Mckercher. The Bazaar ended at 7:15 p.m. with the announcement of the winners of the Silent Auction bids and the various drawings.
By 7:30 p.m. most patrons had headed home leaving behind a veritable army of volunteers who cleaned, tidied and returned the premises to their original state, leaving behind hardly a trace of the activities and people who, each in their own way, contributed to the incredible success of this year’s Christmas Bazaar and Turkey Supper.
