The Sherbrooke Synchronized Swimming Club is proud to announce the appointment of Karoline Traversy as Head Coach. Traversy started on November 27 and is responsible for the sports study program as well as being the coach of the Junior and University Masters groups.
"It is an honour for me to take on this new challenge in Sherbrooke and to pass on my passion to other swimmers. The Améthystes Club has a strong synchronized swimming team with lots of experience and I am proud to be able to work with them now,” said Traversy, head coach of Améthystes de Sherbrooke.
A native of St-bruno, Traversy began her career in synchronized swimming at the age of 8. During her swimming career, she has won several titles at the provincial and national championships in solo, duet and team. Afterwards Traversy started her coaching career. She coached different teams as well as solo swimmers and duets at several levels who managed to perform and win gold at the regional and provincial levels. Traversy just finished a college degree in childhood education and made the decision to come to Sherbrooke while her fiance completes his university studies.
"We are pleased to welcome Ms. Traversy to our Club. Her experience, thoroughness and success in competition will be great assets for Club’s swimmers," said Diane Turgeon, Améthystes de Sherbrooke President. "I would also like to sincerely thank Stephanie Leclair for her dedication as head coach over the past five years, which allowed our swimmers to excel and successfully win several regional, provincial and national competitions. Stephanie can be proud to leave Karoline with a team of experienced coaches and determined swimmers!"
In fact, at the first competition of the year held in Quebec City on November 11 and 12, around twenty Améthystes swimmers were present for the figures competition of the Intermediate, Defi and U12 (Aspirant and Apprenti) networks. Three young aspiring athletes collected several medals. Daphnée Champagne won the gold medal in the 10 and under category. Amélia St-louis won the silver medal and Catherine Bergeron the bronze medal in the 12 and under category.
The Améthystes de Sherbrooke will be hosting the next routine preparatory competition for the Performance network, which will take place from December 8 to 10, 2017 at Sherbrooke University’s swimming pool and will host 12 clubs from throughout the province and some 180 swimmers. The Améthystes of Sherbrooke invites the Eastern Township community to come and cheer on swimmers and learn more about this magnificent endurance sport that is synchronized swimming. Synchronized swimming is a water sport, a mix of gymnastics, dance and swimming. This discipline is very demanding and complex, it requires a very high cardiorespiratory endurance, as well as a great muscular energy.
The Améthystes Synchronized Swimming Club is a non-profit organization that has been in existence for over 25 years. More than 20 coaches teach the 96 competitive and recreational swimmers from the Eastern Townships that are part of the Club. The Club also relies on the support and dedication of many parents and volunteers who help and collaborate in the day-to-day management of the Club and its development in the Sherbrooke community.
