The comedy show, ‘I Have The Right!’ tickled the right bones
Last Wednesday, November 29, the User’s Committee RLS La Pommeraie sponsored a comedy show at the Theatre Lac Brome which highlighted the 12 basic rights of users of the medical system in Quebec. The show was free. Close to 100 people were in attendance.
The show was organized by Monique Lacroix from the committee. Barbara Jack, another member, was in the audience. Michel Lafrance, the president of the committee, spoke at the beginning of the presentation, before Dominic St. Dominic St. Laurent’s comedy performance got the point across: Users do have rights!
Laurent took over the stage. And Dominic certainly did take over the stage. The comedian was very effective at getting all 12 of the rights across. His sense of physical comedy won over the audience. Not many people can walk across the stage in a handstand!
Just what are those 12 rights? You have the right: 1. to information, 2. to services, 3. to access your user file, 4. to user file confidentiality, 5. to participate in making decisions, 6. to consent to/or refuse care, 7. to be accompanied, assisted, and represented, 8. to receive the necessary care for your condition, 9. to receive services in English, 10. to choose your own health care professional or institution, 11. to housing, 12. to lodge a complaint.
