Phoenix to host first hockey wedding

- Record Staff

On Saturday, January 27, 2018, the Sherbrooke Phoenix organization will host the first official wedding in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on the ice at the Leopold-drolet Sports Complex.

The happy union of two fans of the club will take place at 1:30 p.m. before the long-awaited match between the Phoenix and the Quebec City Remparts that will be televised by TVA Sports.

The future bride is Veronique Richard, a Phoenix employee for three years now and who has occasionally sung the pre-game national anthem at the sports complex since November 2013.

The groom is Guillaume Corriveau, a notary and owner of Horizon notaries, a former president of the Sherbrooke Junior Chamber of Commerce, current vice-president of ODACE and proud supporter of the Sherbrooke Phoenix since 2012.

Their friendship was formed over time through gatherings with friends at various hockey games since 2014 and turned into a romance during a pre-season game between the Phoenix and the Waterloo Voltigeurs.

The proposal took place the day before Valentine's Day, on a catamaran in Costa Rica, with Corriveau bending his knee and Joe Cocker’s rendition of ‘You are so beautiful’ playing in the background.

The idea of having their wedding at a Phoenix game came after an evening of discussions following the proposal. The couple decided to enjoy an entire day under a hockey theme to celebrate their love.

The day will begin with the ceremony and then continue with the game accompanied by their guests at the Leopold-drolet Sports Complex, where it all began, and end with a Montreal Canadiens game.

After a some scheduling with the Phoenix organization, the date was set for January 27!.

The ceremony will be officiated by notary Isabelle Dumont, a friend of the couple, and the bride will sing the national anthem in her wedding dress.
