Operation Nez Rouge ends another successful year

- Record Staff

The 2017 Operation Nez Rouge campaign has ended and its organizers are celebrating a 34th year of success. This year’s campaign mobilized no fewer than 51,261 volunteers in 100 Canadian communities, including 39,668 in 61 regions of Quebec. The commitment of these volunteers to making roads safer resulted in 71,430 rides in Canada, of which 53,743 were in Quebec. In the Sherbrooke region some 3,880 rides were provided, with about 25 per cent of these coming from satellite centres in Magog, Coaticook, the Haut-stfrançois and Val-st-françois

Accompanied by its two long-time partners, the Société de l 'assurance automobile du Québec and Desjardins, Operation Nez Rouge is thrilled with this success and is already planning to begin its 35th edition on November 30, 2018.

Operation Red Nose, now one of the great traditions of the holiday season, attributes its ongoing popularity to the participation of thousands of people who have brought it to life for 34 years now. Year after year, they donate their time for one or more evenings to offer the largest escort service in the country.

"Even after a 34th campaign, I am still inspired by the commitment of the thousands of volunteers who help Operation Nez Rouge to exist and take to the road,” said President and Founder Jeanmarie De Koninck. “Their generosity to their community is helping to make our roads safer, and I want to sincerely thank them for their exemplary commitment. The recipe for the success of Operation Red Nose is essentially based on three inseparable ingredients: the decision of conscientious motorists, the support of outstanding partners and, above all, the dedication of exceptional volunteers.”

A service with invaluable benefits

Through donations from its users, Operation Nez Rouge also has a significant impact on many social causes across the country. Each year, approximately $1.5 million is donated to non-profit organizations dedicated to amateur sport or youth. In addition, the money raised is fully redistributed in the communities where it was collected, thus supporting local organizations.

Operation Red Nose at your fingertips

During the last few weeks, many volunteers and users have used the mobile Operation Nez Rouge app activated by Desjardins, which was available for free for a seventh year. In fact, during the 2017 campaign, no fewer than 99,049 uses were recorded across Canada, a figure that speaks volumes about the popularity of its many features.

Operation Red Nose is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the adoption of responsible behavior through a non-judgmental citizen approach by providing an accessible escort service provided by and for the community.
