Federal investments in the Brome-missisquoi Riding
Supporting seniors, striving toward high speed services
The federal government has invested another dollop of money into the Brome-missisquoi riding. Last week the MP Denis Paradis and his team did a sweeping tour around the riding to distribute cheques to recipients of specific grants that they respectively applied for on behalf of Amarjeet Sohi, minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and Jean-yves Duclos, minister of Families, Children and Social Development. The total amount this time was $200,000.
Paradis says that this funding will help promote rises in tourism, develop the skills of youth, improve the lives of seniors, and renew community facilities.
According to Paradis’ office at total of $163,675 from the ministry of Families, Children and Social Development’s “New Horizons” program was applied to the needs cited by Villas des Monts de Sutton, Fondation Aide aux Personnes Âgées in Cowansville, Ressources Cowansville Région, Cercle des fermières de Cowansville, Cercles des fermières Farnham, Ville de Bedford, Club de l’âge d’or Bedford et region, Popote région de Bedford, Centre d’entraide régional d’henryville. These monies will be applied to everything from furniture to cooking equipment, the cost of renovations to facilities servicing seniors, as well as activities designed for them.
Another amount of money amounting to $18,200 from the ministry of Infrastructure and Communities has been awarded to the Bromont Tourism Office in order to improve its infrastructures and promote regional tourism.
“These projects show the involvement of Brome-missisquoi organizations and municipalities, especially the will of their citizens to make our region prosper,” Paradis said. “Community spirit and personal investment are our strength. I am proud to represent people from Brome-missisquoi who, every day, work together so that our beautiful county becomes even better. I want to thank all of you for your involvement and once again offer my congratulations.”
In late December, Paradis and his team conducted a similar exercise for a different reason. Making sure that rural citizens have equal opportunity to high speed Internet, the federal government issued grants to Axion Cable so that an additional 1,174 homes in the areas of Mansonville, Perkins Landing, Highwater, Potton Springs, South Bolton, and Bolton Centre will have access to highspeed services in the traditional tri-play packages if desired. In Austin, a pilot project is being supported by both federal and provincial governments for Civimetrix to undertake a test run with its ultra high-speed data utility. This particular service is a test model for all of Canada and will allow for more services than the traditional tri-play (telephone, TV, and Internet) to be delivered to all homes in the municipality.
