Desjardins funds circus training at Jardin-des-frontières in Stanstead

- Record Staff

The Caisse Desjardins du Lac-memphremagog, on behalf of the Fondation Desjardins, has handed over a Fondation Desjardins grant of $2,500 to the Jardin-des-frontières Elementary School in Stanstead to carry out its "Circus without borders project."

The project allows about 20 students from the fourth to the sixth year to train year-round directly at the school. The amount and duration of training increases over the months in order to present an end-of-year show to which students parents will be invited. The disciplines offered are varied and the kids can learn stilts, cables and aerial fabric, "slackline", rola bola, juggling, and gymnastics among others.

Last year, École La Ruche's "Adopte une vélo" project also won a Fondation Desjardins Award.

The Fondation Desjardins Awards allow school and community stakeholders to complete a project with kindergarten, elementary and high school students. The Foundation received 1,127 applications this year, an increase of 15 per cent over last year. In total, nearly $452,000 has been donated to 200 projects in support of some 29,350 children.

"We received hundreds of inspiring applications for innovative projects, written by people deeply committed to the success of their young people,” added Fondation Desjardins Director Nancy Lee. ”In an ideal world, all the projects would have won.” The 199 winning projects were determined by a vote of Caisse Group officers and employees.
