Auxiliary donates $55,000 to BMP Hospital Foundation
A group of Auxiliary volunteers presented a cheque in December to Lola Landes, executive director of the BMP Foundation. From left to right: Karin Dorey, president from 2015 to October 2017; Patricia Gilbert, recording secretary; Ronaldo Fava, treasurer; Lola Landes; Evelyn Blackwood-french, correspondent secretary; and Cynthia Clinton, Auxiliary boutique chairperson.
For the past 100 years, the BMP Auxiliary has been contributing greatly to the health and well-being of patients in the BMP Hospital. This tremendously caring group of volunteers gives time to operate the boutique and other fundraising activities. Thanks to their commitment, the BMP Auxiliary presented a cheque for $55,000 in December to the BMP Foundation, which will be used for medical imaging equipment.
On behalf of the BMP Foundation and all the patients in the hospital, thank you very much for your devotion and support!
Would you like to get involved? You can make a big difference by giving just a few hours of your time a week. The BMP Hospital Auxiliary is always looking for active and dedicated volunteers who can help in the boutique or visit hospital patients with the food cart.

Last Tuesday I sat in the Massey-vanier parking lot and watched history being made- on my telephone. While waiting for my girls to drive them home from school, I watched as the most powerful rocket ever made lifted off from Cape Canaveral in Florida. And even more amazing was the fact that its rocket boosters returned to earth like 16 storey ballet dancers.
Soon after I watched a TED talk by Elon Musk, founder of Spacex, Tesla, Paypal, the Boring Company, Hyperloop, etc., etc., etc.
He said “People sometimes think technology just automatically gets better every year but actually it doesn’t. It only gets better if smart people work like crazy to make it better. That’s how any technology actually gets better. By itself, technology, if people don’t work at it, actually will decline. Look at the history of civilizations, many civilizations. Look at, say, ancient Egypt, where they were able to build these incredible pyramids and then they basically forgot how to build pyramids. And even hieroglyphics. They forgot how to read hieroglyphics. Or if you look at Rome and how they were able to build these incredible roadways and aqueducts and indoor plumbing, they forgot how to do all of those things. There are many such examples in history. So I think we should always bear in mind that entropy is not on your side.”
The same thing is true with our spiritual lives. Entropy is not on our side.
D.A. Carson says “People do not drift toward holiness. Apart from grace-driven effort, people do not gravitate toward godliness, prayer, obedience to Scripture, faith, and delight in the Lord.
We drift toward compromise and call it tolerance; we drift toward disobedience and call it freedom; we drift toward superstition and call it faith. We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation; we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into thinking we have escaped legalism; we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated.”
We want to help you avoid Spiritual Entropy. We at St. Paul’s know that there are many hurdles for many people to overcome if they are to investigate the God of the Bible. Some are self-made, some church-made, some are spiritual.
We invite you to join us as we think about the Spiritual Hurdles that get in the way of people considering Jesus as someone worth investigating. We will look at topics like: The Bloody Bible, Can you trust the Bible?, God and Science, God and the gods, God and Suffering, Miracles?
Bring your questions, bring your friends, Sundays at St. Paul’s - 10:00. Everyone welcome!
