Fake news in your pages?

-

The BCN is a community paper that used to be very much appreciated over many decades. One may not always agree with the editorial choice and covered topics but it’s always been a fairly good source of news for the community. Some journalists came and went with varying skills but we never had to complain too loudly. That was before Mrs. Davidson, whom I don’t know personally, got into the picture.

Her constant bias in favor of the municipal administration over the past few years renders her writing totally useless. The glossy pamphlets sent by the selfpromoting Burcombe administration carries the same inflated kind of halftruths every three months. She is merely relaying the raw information from a controversial town council without the slightest curiosity or interest in double checking facts as if they were the gospel. Having more than one source is fairly basic in modern journalism, unless you don’t have a clue about ethics. We definitively entered in a new trumpish era.

The lady lately wrote a lot about the pool project insisting that it gets wide support, even talked about “hundreds” of people attending a rally where a 1,000 were expected. As you may remember I had the privilege to write a few letters in regard to the pool project. I submitted well-documented arguments, facts, and suggestions and, I must confess, some more satirical papers to diffuse the tension at some point. I would argue that someone paid to write in your pages should be more diligent and adopt a more balanced approach.

Your journalist is promoting the division of the community, and grossly misreads the will of the majority. If she were doing her job in a decent manner she would properly count the number of supporters at last Sunday’s rally (see the pictures for yourself). Also, she would stress the fact that Mayor Burcombe, after receiving a petition two years ago against the project signed by close to 1,500 people, said that he doesn’t accept petitions because he was elected to make decision. It should be in the minutes of the council. In a dramatic reversal of his position he is now willing to consider a petition in favor of his pet project if signed by at least a 1,000. Petition wise, could the journalist explain to us how one can be coerced into signing a petition? Lies and deception are a good start in my opinion.

Between you and I, it won’t be the end
