Sherbrooke population Increased by nearly 2,000 last year
Contrary to what was suggested in the 2018 population decree issued in January by the Quebec government, the City of Sherbrooke did not experience any loss of population over the last year. The City’s population continued to increase, according to the most recent estimate from the Quebec Institute of Statistics (ISQ).
At the end of each year, the Québec government uses preliminary data from the ISQ to quantify the population of the various cities and municipalities in the province as of July 1st.
Data updated Tuesday by the ISQ showed that Sherbrooke in fact gained nearly 2,000 residents over the year to reach 166,988 people, as of July 1, 2017.
Since the municipal amalgamation of 2001, the population of Sherbrooke has been increasing year by year.
