The Grand Spin Don raises $95,000 to fight cancer

- Record Staff

Over 250 participants took shifts on stationary bikes at the Rock Forest Maxi Club Sports Medicine Club to cycle for cancer at the Grand Spin Don.

The group spinning event, now in its sixth edition, raised over $95,501 in donations for the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS).

Mylène Vachon, President of the organizing committee, applauded the teamwork behind successful fundraiser. "The objective of this 6th edition was to recruit more than 200 participants and raise $ 100,000, but above all to provide a unique experience for all those who come back year after year.”

Even though the total amount did not quite reach the $ 100,000 benchmark, Vachon said the event was a success from start to finish.

“A huge thank you to all those who, from near or far, have supported us in the last months,” Vachon said, thanking partners and sponsors. The bar is set for next year!"

The final amount raised will be confirmed in a few weeks when all donations and sponsorships received. The preliminary amount of $95,501 could very well increase, organizers said. People who wish to make a donation can still do so through the website at www.grandspindon.ca.

Rock Forest Maxi Club isn’t the only gym participating in the Grand Spin Don.

In total, there are eight events taking place in February throughout Quebec. Guided by a coach on energizing music, participants pedal alone or in teams, depending on the challenge. In addition, the level of intensity is adapted to the physical condition of each spinner.
