Featured pet: Delphina
Delphina is an 8 year old schnauzer. She is sweet and friendly and looking forward to experiencing all that life has to offer. Coming from a puppy mill type environment, Delphina has had little to no opportunity to enjoy even the most fundamental aspects of being a dog. She has not enjoyed long leisurely strolls outdoors, she has not romped around or played with toys, she has not cuddled up on the couch, she has never had her own soft bed nor has she ever been loved. Delphina was nothing more than a means to a financial end; she was used for breeding and her puppies sold for profit. Fortunately, the dogs at this facility have a guardian angel who is contacted when they become too old or sick to be bred. As much as we would love to see this facility shut down, the owner is operating with a permit so for now, there is nothing more we can do but provide them a safe place to land.
In the last few months we've welcomed 5 dogs from the same breeding facility. Like those who came before her, Delphina's teeth are rotting and she will require major dental work. Her dental surgery will be done by our vet at our expense prior to adoption.
Happily, Delphina seems quite adaptable and she is adjusting well. Although at first a little unsure of all the new sights and sounds, she is starting to enjoy her walks and despite her ordeal, she loves people and readily welcomes attention from shelter volunteers. She is fine with cats and interacts well with other dogs. Kept indoors, Delphina is not housetrained so her adopter should be willing to continue working with her. With time and a little patience, she'll figure it out.
Delphina has so many amazing new experiences ahead. All she needs now is that special someone with whom to embark on this new adventure. She has so much potential to be a loyal and loving companion.
