What does Canadianpond.ca do?

- By Steve Blake

With the world trending toward clean waterways, Canadianpond.ca Products Ltd. is on the leading edge of technology aiming toward that goal. The Bubble Tubing trademarked by Mario Paris, the company’s owner, is used in several applications to clean water. The tubing disperses air into the water (aeration) with high oxygen transfer. The tubing is also used for de-icing and “bubble curtains.”

Aeration Aeration adds oxygen to the water, which breaks down micro organisms caused by decomposing plants or leaves at the bottom of a pond or lake, Paris said. The oxygen slows down the aging process, or eutrophication, of a body of water. Environmental experts have found that Canadianpond.ca’s Bubble Tubing is efficient toward that end.

“Overall, the results obtained for the Canadianpond.ca Products Ltd. aeration systems were uniformly excellent and produced some of the highest SOTE (standard oxygen transfer efficiency) values GSEE Inc. has observed,” GSEE Environmental Consultants from Lavergne, Tenn. wrote in a report.

Paris said his company’s system saves energy. That’s why the company is successful around the world, where energy and its environmental costs are high.

Municipalities use aeration at their wastewater treatment plant, and some landfills are aerating their catchbasins, Paris said. But, he added, it’s difficult to convince Quebec municipalities of the financial benefits of using Canadianpond.ca products because the province’s energy costs are so low. The Coaticook landfill owned by the MRC, however, saved 80 per cent of its energy costs after installing Bubble Tubing, he said.

De-icing Canadianpond.ca has more than ten years of experience in de-icing, according to an informational brochure. Deicing protects docks, marinas, water intake pipes, and watercraft that stay in the water throughout the winter. It also allows cold weather operations like marine construction in fresh or salt water.

“That’s close to 50 per cent of our business,” Paris said.

Bubble curtains

The submerged Bubble Tubing creates water column barriers with multiple functions. The bubble curtains are effective for sound attenuation up to 70 decibels, Paris said. It protects marine wildlife from the noise caused by drilling or piledriving beams or columns into the bed. The bubbles also deter jellyfish and other fish from clogging submerged water pipes.

And bubble curtains are used to stop plastic material from reaching the oceans. The Bubble Tubing placed on the bottom of rivers and canals stops plastic materials from flowing through, yet doesn’t deter fish or ships. Paris said the bubbles redirect the material to the bank where they can be retrieved and disposed of. Canadianpond.ca has a partnership with an organization in the Netherlands, The Great Bubble Barrier.

Hello everyone! I am an older lady, about 13 years old, with beautiful wavy black fur, gold markings, and touches of white. I’m sweet, gentle, and friendly and still enthusiastic about life! My one problem is that my back legs don’t work exactly as well as they are supposed to. Sure I can walk and even run sometimes and nothing hurts me, but people look at me and say, “poor dog.” You see, when I was very young for some reason one of my vertebrae became dislocated and no one attended to it at the time. I have been this way almost all my life — no big deal, but I need a special home and special people who can love me just for being me…a nice quiet life for the rest of my days. Do you know anyone?

I live here with lots and lots of great dogs and cats — the SPCA Montérégie, 178, ch. du Vide, Ste-angèle-de-monnoir (exit 37 on autoroute 10). Adoption hours are 2-4 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays. 450-460-3075 www.spcamonteregie.com www.facebook.com/spcamonteregie P.S. This week there are lots of small dogs here at the shelter!
