Magog burglars caught red-handed
Two Waterloo men were nabbed redhanded while burglarizing houses in Magog Wednesday morning. Police were let to the assailants by an elderly citizen.
A woman in her seventies, who was taking care of his neighbour’s house on Milletta Rd during his absence, found that a window had been smashed and upon entering, happened upon the burglars, who immediately fled.
“The woman immediately contacted the police and provided an excellent description of the suspects, said Memphremagog Police spokesperson Mickaël Laroche. “Thanks to this and a patrol officer’s vigilance, the two were located just after after leaving a residence on Route 112 that they had just robbed.”
The two men, aged 21 and 23, did not resist arrest and were later interviewed by investigators. After analyzing the file, it was determined that the individuals had committed three break-ins during the morning in Memphremagog. They were looking for money, jewellery, electronic devices, and alcohol. The two may also be connected to other burglaries being investigated by the Sûreté du Québec. Tate investigation is ongoing.
The two appeared Thursday in Sherbrooke on charges of break and enter, theft, possession of burglary tools and wearing a disguise. In addition, the 23year-old, who has a substantial criminal record, will also be charged with breaking probation for similar cases. The 21year-old will be charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of narcotics, since he was found with cayenne pepper spray and a small amount of cannabis. He has no previous criminal record.
