When life throws you a curve ball…keep dancing

-

Andrea Conway and Wayne Doba

Wayne and I have been dancing together for 17 years now, and I have to give him full credit… he has taught me tap from scratch. Some of you might have seen us as Dik and Mitzi at Theatre Lac Brome or the Piggery. After every show we have performed we always have had someone come up to us saying, “I always dreamed of tap dancing,” or “I took tap dance when I was young,” and “Do you guys teach?” In the past we have not had time to teach, we were always travelling. In 2017 that all changed.

It has been one year since I have been doing home dialysis. I am currently on the list for a kidney transplant. They say that the average wait time is about three years. It has been a major lifestyle change. I am a lot more tired, and it has made it very difficult to do what we were doing before, which was a lot of traveling to the states to perform five-month contracts.

So last fall we decided to offer a tap dancing lessons to our community. It has been a pleasure for the both of us to teach. It is an amazing process — personally it has made me realize how much I know and how much I have learned from Wayne. Being able to share this art form with others and actually see a group of people getting a step has been very rewarding for the both of us. It is a great way to have fun, stay in shape, and make music with your feet.

Come give it a try…open to all ages. We will be starting a new session on April 9, Mondays at 7 p.m. For information call us: 450-538-1816 or email us at mitzidik@sympatico.ca.
