Canadian Club of the Yamaska Valley April 9 meeting

-

The next meeting of the Canadian Club of the Yamaska Valley will be held on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Auberge West Brome, 128 Provincial Route 139. Unfortunately the scheduled presenter, Richard Côté, has had to cancel his lecture titled, “The World of Bees,” but the club has engaged an excellent replacement. Richard Morris will speak on “Back Yard Birding in the Townships.” Yes, we have gone from the bees to the birds.

Morris will present a talk and slide show on local bird populations, especially as recorded in the annual Christmas Audubon bird count in the greater Lake Memphremagog area. In addition to his fine eye for photographing and describing birds Morris has amassed a large repertoire of bird sounds. Throughout the speech he will challenge the audience to identify a bird for each recording.

Originally from England, Morris came to Montreal in 1978 to work with a CA firm. He eventually met and married a Townships gal and has since retired to Ogden, Que. As an amateur ornithologist he records bird sightings wherever his world travels take him. Currently, Morris is the president of the Georgeville Nature Ski Group and organizes spring and fall trail hikes in that area.

At the end of the lecture there will be a “Q and A” followed by refreshments where guests can speak with Morris and, of course, socialize with other attendees.

CCYV meetings are free to club members, $10 fee for non-members. To enjoy noon lunch at the Auberge reserve at 450-266-7552 or 1-888-902-7663. Club information at 450243-6524.
