New hiking formula for Sentiers de l’estrie
Les Sentiers de l’estrie, the local organization whose main mission is to promote hiking by making trails accessible in the region, is inviting the public to take part in the "My Outdoor Experience Prescription" hike, a new kind of event being held on Friday, April 27 at the Base de Plein-air André-nadeau outdoor centre in Sherbrooke.
According to organizers, “My Outdoor Experience Prescription” is a contemplative hike led by certified guides on a very easy 2.5 km course. Participants will have the opportunity to meet speakers such as Dominique Devost, M. Ed. Jeanfrançois Longchamps, personal trainer, and Lise Gosselin, Retired Physician, Occupational Health Prevention and longtime hiker. Adept at the outdoors and hiking in the forest, they will aim to inspire hikers with their passion while speaking on themes such as the importance of non competitive sport, "My body, my means of transportation while hiking" and "How is hiking an asset to the maintenance of health?".
Registration for the activity is open to citizens of all ages and costs $20 for adults, the proceeds of which will go towards improving trail infrastructure. The hike is free for children. The public can register until Thursday, April 26 on the Sentiers de l'estrie website at www.lessentiersdelestrie.qc.ca, by phone at 819 864-6314, or on site, the day of the event. Doors will open at 1 p.m. and the hike will begin at 2 p.m., aiming to be finished by 5 pm.
